I can't say what it sounds like because it is part of a guitar. I can say that it does work in its intended purpose. Jatoba, commonly called Brazilian cherry, does not take oil based polyurethane well. Site finished Brazilian cherry flooring is almost always coated with water-based polyurethane, as oil based polyurethane's can take up to a week for the first coat to dry on the floor. Obviously, you're not putting any kind of polyurethane on your fretboard. In 2017 LTD's transitioned to the use of Roasted Jatoba (200 range), Pau Ferro (400 range) and Macassar Ebony (600 / 1000 range) (plus some other types) for the use of fretboards, this was done to follow Cites to limit the use of Rosewood types for fretboards.
